Non stress test ( NST) is a special test done in the antenatal period , usually after 32 weeks of pregnancy to monitor the well being of the fetus by heart beat recordings of the fetus in certain special situations where the health of the mother or baby are affected , and in conditions where the pregnancy requires extra attention. It is a painless and simple procedure that will monitor the heartbeat of the baby so that a better evaluation of the unborn child can take place.

We provide NST at our centre. Usually it takes 20 minutes to complete the test . Here the fetal heart beat and movements are recorded by a probe put on the mother’s abdomen. The safety of both you and your baby is our topmost concern and hence only a specialized nurse in fetal testing performs this task. The heart beat trace is then seen by our expert doctors and further management is accordingly given.

There are many indications for performing NST in High risk pregnancies such as –

 High Blood Pressure (Pregnancy induced hypertension/preeclampsia)
 Diabetes
 Fetal growth lag (IUGR)
 Less liquor (oligohydramnios)
 Past the due date
 Any other special indications
